This letter was originally sent to the i newspaper in the UK to mark International Volunteer Day.

Dear Editor,

The world we live in is facing unprecedented challenges. In the news, there are daily reminders of the threat of climate change, widening inequality and deep seated division division across societies.

But our generation is taking a stand. Today marks International Volunteer Day, and we are some of thousands of young people who have taken action here in the UK and around the world. Between us we have tackled HIV stigma in the UK, fought gender inequality in Nigeria and supported justice in Kenya. We are a borderless collective already taking a lead to deliver results that benefit generations past, present and future.

We are citizens of the world and the answer to some of our greatest challenges. Now is the time for global leaders to recognise the power of young people and invest in the positive change that we are creating.

Regards,

Ciaran Sneddon, Matt Andrew, Sonya Hussain and Corina Pickering
